楊頌斯曾經在2004年與阿姆斯特丹音樂會堂管弦樂團，完成一份評價甚高的理查‧史特勞斯交響詩「英雄的生涯」錄音，相隔七年之後，這份2011年與巴伐利亞廣播交響樂團的新版「英雄的生涯」錄影，格外令樂迷期待。這份演出，還找來日裔的鋼琴大師內田光子來演出貝多芬第三號鋼琴協奏曲，內田光子多年前與庫特桑德霖合作的貝多芬五首鋼琴協奏曲錄音，獨到的詮釋手法，宛如手術刀般精細的明晰演繹，獲得多位樂評人的極高評價。近期更與拉圖及柏林愛樂重新詮釋這五首協奏曲，柏林愛樂官方更將此不外售的錄影拿來餽贈數位線上音樂廳的會員，是今日貝多芬鋼琴協奏曲的演奏權威。
重頭戲「英雄的生涯」，擅長這類大部頭音樂的楊頌斯，火力全開的驅使巴伐利亞廣播演繹出開團的最高級水準，搭配最高規格的錄製水準，是一份喜愛管弦樂錄影的樂迷務必珍藏的精采大碟。

Beethoven wrote his Piano Concerto No. 3 around 1800, at a time in which the ambitious composer had created his first important works in Vienna, such as the “Pathétique” Sonata and the “Moonlight” Sonata – personal works full of power and passion, with which he distanced himself from his mentor and model, Haydn. This performance o ’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under the direction of its principal conductor Mariss Jansons stars the distinguished pianist Mitsuko Uchida, who is known the world over for her outstanding interpretations of the piano works of Schubert, Mozart and Beethoven, as well as of 20th-century masters such as Schoenberg, Berg, Webern and Boulez.
Richard Strauss wrote his tone poem for large orchestra Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life) in 1898, shortly before he left Munich for the Berlin Court Opera, where he was appointed house conductor. In the imaginary hero whose eventful life is described in the work, the young Strauss apparently envisioned the freelance artist of his time, who was exposed to considerable hostility during the Wilhelminian era, just as Strauss himself in his early Munich period.
